Arabella Avenue: A C2C Baby Blanket Pattern

I am so excited to introduce you to the very first of my C2C baby blanket Patchwork Quilt Collection: Arabella Avenue! Whenever I think of vintage-style quilts like these, I always find myself transported into the world of Jane Austen, day-dreaming of cuddling up on a window seat with a good book. Who else wishes they could just jump into one of her books sometimes? Which one would you visit?

In terms of the name, I wanted to be able to keep track of the order in which I release each of these C2C baby blankets, so I decided to start with A and go alphabetically! Reminds me of the movie “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”… anyone else love that musical?

What is C2C?

If you haven’t heard of C2C, here’s a little summary. It stands for “corner to corner.” Like the name, you work from one corner across diagonally to the opposite corner. It is a relatively simple crochet technique and only uses chains and double crochet stitches!

If you’ve done C2C patterns before, this one should be easy to follow! However, I do have a brief introduction to C2C crocheting in my pattern for anyone that needs a refresher! Due to the changing colors, this C2C baby blanket pattern is a bit more intermediate than solid C2C patterns. Not to worry! I will be guiding you through every row and ever color change… so you don’t have to try and follow some diagonal lines on a graph… I have frogged this C2C baby blanket countless times so you don’t have to!

The Design

Do you ever find yourself just randomly scrolling through Pinterest and then two hours later realized you just went down a huge rabbit hole? This project was my rabbit hole. I kept seeing all of these beautiful quilts on Pinterest and, as all crocheters would, wondered, “could I crochet this?” And the answer was, of course! Now, I have a Pinterest board with hundreds of different quilts! I mentioned to my husband the idea of an entire collection and he thought it was pretty neat… until I mentioned the alphabet idea… “Are you going to make 26 of these?” “Maybe…?” We’ll see how far I get… though the amount of ends there are to weave in might slow me down!

I didn’t want to add extra complexity with the border, but I wanted to add a little something to finish it off. I was inspired by the Moss Stitch from my previous baby blanket, Baby Joe’s Blanket of Many Colors, but the options are endless with what border you could do for this!

For yarn colors, I wanted to keep to a more muted color palette. If I could go back, I would maybe switch the purple shade to something lighter because it looks very similar to the brown yarn, but overall I am very pleased with Yarn Bee’s Soft & Sleek yarn collection! You can get this yarn on Amazon, but I have a Hobby Lobby close by that sells it as well.

Now we all know how much I love baby blankets, not only because they are easy and quick to make, but I love gifting and donating them to those in need! However, this blanket graph can easily be duplicated to make a larger blanket, but you’d have to follow a graph rather than my step-by-step for each row in the pattern. I’d love to see what this would look like on a larger scale!

Conclusion

I hope you love the Arabella Avenue C2C baby blanket as much as I do! She’s a little bit more intermediate than my other baby blankets, but she is so worth it! Have you ever tried C2C? What did you make? Comment below!
