handmade cotton crochet washcloth for kitchen use

Stars & Stitches Easy Crochet Dishcloth (Beginner Sedge Stitch Pattern)

An easy crochet dishcloth has recently become one of those projects I keep reaching for without really thinking about it… the kind of make that feels satisfying in the moment and actually makes it to the finish line, which is always a small victory in my world of “just one more WIP.”

And honestly, I’m already daydreaming about summer—lazy afternoons by the pond, popsicles that drip faster than you can eat them, and all the cute sundresses I’m fully planning to rotate through on repeat. Even if I probably should be mentally preparing how I’m going to survive the third trimester during the hottest months of the year instead of romanticizing them… we’re choosing denial and cotton yarn over here.

This Stars & Stitches Dishcloth leans right into that summer energy. It uses a simple sedge stitch that creates the prettiest subtle texture without any extra effort, which is exactly the kind of crochet I want right now — easy, rhythmic, and the kind of project you can fall into without thinking too hard.

Also, I have to admit—taking photos of crochet projects is a little humbling. Like there I am, rearranging a dishcloth on a countertop thinking, “okay yes… a little to the left… give me texture… give me drama.” It feels ridiculous in the moment, but then I see the stitches come through and remember why I’m doing it in the first place.

Because this stitch really is satisfying! It photographs beautifully, works up quickly, and turns a simple ball of cotton yarn into something that feels just a little too pretty to actually use for dishes… even though it absolutely will be. And somehow I’m sitting here thinking, “I should make five more of these.”
