The Unbreakable Bond Crochet Blanket Pattern

This… this crochet blanket has been my largest project to date. With nearly 18 skeins of yarn, 4 months of carrying around a huge bag so I could crochet at school, and many hours of crocheting, this crochet blanket has finally made its debut on the blog.

Whether you are looking for just a warm crochet blanket with wonderfully intricate designs, or a gorgeous heirloom to pass on to generations, this crochet afghan is sure to catch the eye of all who gaze upon it.

The Story

After I got engaged, I knew that I wanted to make a crochet blanket for my husband and I’s future home. I wanted something that wasn’t just beautiful at first glance, but could also have some further intention behind it. If you look closely at this crochet blanket, you will see that the cable stitches resemble three strands being braided together. During our engagement, my fiancé, now husband, and I believed that once we were married, we would not just be in union with each other, but also with God. Additionally, I wanted the name to reflect that meaning. These braids that have been crocheted together are unbreakable, much like the marital bond between two spouses.

“Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate.” (Matthew 19:6)

Though I am a pretty private person when it comes to all things religious or political, I still wanted to share my crochet blanket design process with you. I wanted to make sure this crochet blanket would be the perfect neutral addition to any home, whether religious or otherwise. As such, it has all the cozy, cable knit vibes that make it a wonderful house-warming gift or even just a little gift to yourself! It has been keeping my husband and I nice and warm this past month… especially since it started snowing this week! Brr! Perfect time for bundling under a blanket (wink wink) with a nice glass of hot cocoa!

The Blanket

Before we get into this crochet blanket pattern, I thought I’d confess why this post took as long as it did. I actually finished the blanket a few months ago because I was going to be moving to Montana, getting married, going on a honeymoon, and I wanted this afghan to be waiting for us when we got back. However, for this blog post in particular, I thought it would be super cute to have some *aesthetic* pictures of the two of us with The Unbreakable Bond Blanket, but apparently coordinating two work schedules, lighting, a cheap tripod, and a “good hair” day is no small feat! We’re still learning, but thanks for coming along for the ride, and here’s a picture.
